Alastair Reynold’s Inhibitor series is the exact kind of science fiction moolah that I tend to get crazy with. The worlds of Chasm City and Revelation Space are infused with gothic elements that are so dark, the novels feel like they’re set in some far future underworld. . Not only that, Reynolds mixes quantum physics, genetics and gothic and noir elements into his worlds.

My first foray into the Inhibitor series (which is actually not an official tag to Reynold’s “sequence” of books) was Diamond Dogs and Turquoise Days. These two novellas play into the background of much of the stories in the series but the real gem here is Turquoise Days, where Pattern Jugglers roam and invade human consciousness.

The only problem with Reynolds is that his novels are a bit too long, which is why I’m a bit wary with jumping headlong into the series, considering my situation. But maybe I’ll save them for later, no? The other thing is that (like eldritch00) I really want all my editions of Reynold’s novels to match. So far, I’ve seen quite a lot of the spiffy Gollancz editions (see covers above), the rest of the series are available on Ace mmpb editions whose covers kind of suck much. Also present is the Gollancz SF Future Classics edition of Revelation Space

The thing with getting this edition is that it wont match the rest of the series (unless you already have an earlier edition on Revelation Space). Plus, it’s really tempting to get the rest of the series, which is a crazy idea for a dirt poor kid like me.
